The following is a lot of cut and paste from JKWengert's thread back in the old forums, "TERA Lore: What We Know So Far." I've removed many links to many lore pieces outside of the old forum however, but they linked /first/ to posts on the old forum, making them worthless for the time being. I replaced several of them with everything I could remember off the top of my head though, and even went through and updated some more conflicting bits to bring it up to the lore as it is known today.

TERA Dev Journal: Gods of TERA

1.A The Titans

1.I Arun/Shara: The creators of all, the Titans

- The two sleeping Titans, the creators of the gods. The titans were fleeing from a realm of endless strife. We don’t know a lot about it, but legend says that they managed to escape their reality through some sort of rift, and found themselves in a void. Exhausted from their flight, they lay down and dreamed "The Exiled Realm of Arborea" into being.

1.B Arun-Born Gods

1.II -=[Karas]=-

- Patron of the Elves. Helped enforce peace between Amarun and Zuras. Karas withdrew from the world in anger when his wife Elinu fell into a deep, deathlike sleep following the birth of their children Balder and Ishara. No god would help him revive her, and in retaliation he cursed the Ancient Light, making it no brighter than our moon. Vowing revenge, he disappeared, leaving the elves to their own devices.

- Karas, creator of the elves, was the de facto leader of the twelve original gods. He took an active hand in raising his son Lok, but became mournful and bitter with grief after Elinu’s death. Karas cursed the world with perpetual twilight, then departed the elven homeland. He hasn’t been seen since. The elves never sought another god, instead choosing to mourn and honor Karas’s grief.

1.III -=[Zuras]=-

- Goddess, First of the Devas. Waged war against the Amani.

- The most seductive of the original twelve gods, Zuras created the many clans of devas, including the clan that would eventually become the castanics. Whether through disguise or her natural allure, Zuras bore children from three different fathers. Her children range from the benevolent (Mystel, Velik, and Kaia) to the malicious (notably Thulsa, who still plots to regain his divine power).

- Zuras disappeared near the start of the Divine War and hasn’t reappeared despite entreaties from the devas she created.

1.IV -=[Gidd]=-

- Gidd was both covetous and vain, and prized above all his winged horse, Perios, and his greatspear, Cranos. When he created the first humans, they too coveted Perios and Cranos, and made plans to steal them both to use as leverage to bend the god’s will. Gidd caught them trying to make off with the spear, and was outraged. He poured out his wrath on the humans, cursing them to wander the world for 2,000 years with no hearth nor home.

- One of the original twelve gods dreamed into existence by the titans, Gidd created the human race. But he found his creations troublesome and rebellious, so he cursed them to live a nomadic existence for centuries—a curse the humans overcame only recently.

- Gidd’s dalliances with the goddess Zuras resulted in many divine children, including the prophetic goddess Mystel and the sinister god Thulsa. Gidd led the gods of Arun into battle during the Divine War, but the goddess Akasha lured him away from the battle, then killed him. After Gidd’s death, the goddess Velik adopted the human race and remains their patron to this day.

1.V -=[Amarun]=-

- Creator of the Amani, Amarun was one of the first gods to take up arms against another deity: Zuras.

- Amarun and the amani fared poorly in their war against Zuras and the devas, and a string of defeats resulted in the enslavement of the amani people by the giants.

- A battlefield casualty in the final days of the Divine War, Amarun never lived to see his “grandchildren” freed. After his death, the goddess Kaia adopted the amani and built them a city, Kaiator, that bears her name.

1.VI -=[Tithus]=-

- One of the most trusted of the original twelve gods, Tithus created the giants (including the scholar caste that became the barakas).

- Tithus tried to act as a peacemaker among the gods, but his efforts were increasingly heavy-handed. Thulsa led a group of rebellious gods into battle against Tithus and killed him, widening the Divine War.

1.VII -=[Elinu]=-

- Youngest of the gods. With her divine essence, she created the Elin.

- Wife of Karas, Elinu fell into a deep, deathlike sleep following the birth of their children Balder and Ishara. No god would help revive her.

- Once called Mother Nature, she is the goddess of Generosity.

- Q. Considering Elinu is resting within the sacred lake where Pora Elinu lies, how deep must one dive down to reach her uh... sleeping form? A: No mortal can reach her. It's possible Karas left something behind to deter the mortals, and even the gods, from desecrating her.

- Elinu, creator of the elins, was the first god to die—in childbirth long before the Divine War, bringing the twins Balder and Ishara to life. Her death was a crushing blow to all the gods, but especially her husband, Karas.

1.C Shara-Born Gods

1.VIII -=[Sikander/Shikander]=-

- He sealed away his own power and went into deep slumber after his lover Isren was killed.

- The phoenix, first of the Sikandari.

1.IX -=[Gomo/Gluda?]=-

- Dark master of the Gulas and Vampirs.

- Gluda created two races at the dawn of history: the gulas and vampirs. A born schemer, Gluda insisted that her two creations battle each other for her favor.

- Jealousy of Zuras consumed Gluda, and many suspect that she or her daughter, Akasha, quietly murdered Zuras as the Divine War began. Perhaps fittingly, it was betrayal and intrigue that resulted in Gluda’s death. Thulsa had allied with Gluda and her children in battles against Tithus and Isren, but Thulsa coveted the power of the gulas and vampirs. Thulsa led a strike force that fought through armies of gulas and vampirs to slay Gluda in one of the largest battles of the Divine War.

1.X -=[Ur]=-

- God of the Wendigos.

1.XI -=[Isren]=-

- Was once a Goddess of Peace and the creator of the Faerie race, however she was dragged into the War of the Gods and was murdered.

- Queen/Goddess of the Faeries, Isren was another victim of Thulsa and the other rebellious gods. Like Tithus, Isren attempted to remain neutral among the contentious gods, but unlike Tithus, she merely tried to stay out of conflicts rather than mediate them. When Thulsa and Gluda’s children turned on Isren and killed her, all the gods realized that there could be no bystanders in the Divine War.

1.XII -=[Saleron/Shaleron]=-

- Once the Leader of all Gods but after the loss in the War he became a prisoner by his son Killiun and was incarcerated.

- Lord of Prions.

1.XIII -=[Dagon]=-

- Known as the father of the serpentine Naga, Dagon killed the Baraka God of Wisom, Oriyn.

- God of Snakes and the creator of the Yuanti Race. His old temples and ruins remain around the world still.

2.A Children of the Gods, Other Gods & Notable Characters

2.I -=[Balder]=-

- Child of Elinu and Karas. Lok had forged the Crown of Phanes to cure Balder, but instead it killed him.

- Even as a child, Balder was held in high regard by all the other gods, who saw a lot of his mother, Elinu, when they looked at him. After Tithus’s death, Balder stepped into the peacekeeper role among the gods. Despite deep divisions and bitter rivalries among the gods, almost everyone respected Balder, who was entrusted with the keys to the heavenly abode where the gods were at their strongest.

- Karas’s curse of darkness came to an end when Balder sacrificed his sight so that others in the world could see. Balder tore out his own eyes and hurled them into the sky, where they became the twin suns that give the world light to this day.

- Yet even the wisdom of Balder could not keep the gods at peace forever. Balder’s twin sister, Ishara, sought Balder’s power and convinced their older brother Lok that Balder was descending into madness. Lok unintentionally killed Balder upon placing the Crown of Phanes upon him, and stole the keys to the gods’ heavenly abode.

- After Balder was killed, his friend and bodyguard, Shakan, killed Lok before Lok revealed where he had hid the gods' power.

2.II -=[Ishara]=-

- Balder’s twin sister, Ishara, sought Balder’s power and convinced their older brother Lok that Balder was descending into madness. Lok unintentionally killed Balder and stole the keys to the gods’ heavenly abode.

- Ishara's mother and father were Elinu and Karas.

2.III -=[Kaia]=-

- Helped free the Amani from slavery. God of Warriors.

- The goddess Kaia had long held warfare classes for young amani in the city center's open plaza.

- Kaia and her young students defended Kaiator during its first and only breach by Argon siege drills. Several hundred workers and students died in the plaza. A hundred soldiers died in tunnels under the city, driving away the argons before other drills could surface. Only five students survived.

- Zuras' children range from the benevolent (Mystel, Velik, and Kaia) to the malicious (notably Thulsa, who still plots to regain his divine power).

2.IV -=[Lok]=-

- Worked with Kaia and the Castanics to help free the Amani from slavery.

- As the giants plotted to rebuild their empire, the amani prayed for deliverance. Their own god had long since abandoned them, but Kaia took pity on them and asked Lok to intervene. Lok and his deva artisans could not resist the puzzle of an unbreakable seal. After three years of work, Lok gave the amani the keys of freedom.

- His Crown of Phanes creation killed Balder.

- Karas and Elinu are Lok's father and mother.

- Lok unintentionally killed Balder and stole the keys to the gods’ heavenly abode.

- Lok inherited his father Karas’s cleverness and quickly became renowned as an inventor. He fashioned the magic device that freed the amani people from their magical enslavement by the giants. But his intellect was greater than his wisdom, and he believed Ishara’s lies about Balder’s insanity. Lok created a device that would steal the gods’ collective power from Balder, but he didn’t realize the device would kill Balder—until he used it.

- Lok channeled the divine power away for later use and stranded most of the gods away from their heavenly abodes, but Balder’s friend and bodyguard, Shakan, killed Lok before Lok revealed how or where he hid that power.

2.V -=[Nerezzar]=-

- A necromancy practicing god worshipped by the devas.

2.VI -=[Oriyn]=-

- A god murdered by Dagon during the Divine War.

- The Barakan God of Wisdom.

2.VII -=[Velik]=-

- Current patron of Humans and Goddess of the Hunt and of Bravery. She offered Humans a home after they were cursed by their creator, Gidd.

- Velik, tired of the Divine War, vowed to end violence within the vicinity of her city. Velika's reputation as a place of peace spread throughout Arun and Shara, and refugees from wars elsewhere traveled there. But racial tension rose until a civil war broke loose.

- The violence outside her palace infuriated Velik. As the sun set over the burning city, Velik stalked the streets, ending anyone with the temerity to break her proclamation. Hundreds died on that "Night of Black Arrows"—human and nonhuman alike.

- Zuras' children range from the benevolent (Mystel, Velik, and Kaia) to the malicious (notably Thulsa, who still plots to regain his divine power).

2.VIII -=[Selen/Seren?]=-

- Goddess of the Moon, the lakes and the Guardian of Elementals. She is the protector of the Popori race.

- The latest Mysterium research suggests that the goddess Seren has taken on the task of making spirit into flesh.

2.IX -=[Mystel]=-

- A wandering Goddess able to foresee the future. She is always delivering the will of the Gods.

- Gidd’s dalliances with the goddess Zuras resulted in many divine children, including the prophetic goddess Mystel and the sinister god Thulsa.

2.X -=[God of Fear?]=- *Speculation*

- (Based on video) The God of Fear goes down to her Father and tries to wake him up. Shikand was resurrected using the "magic kill cycle" skill. Sounds like Sikander who locked away his own power and slumbered after his lover was killed. She's looking for the artifact from the god Tae-Go (also never heard of before) and Father asks if he ever had it. She attacks him to force him to remember and he breaks the artifact and scatters the pieces across the world. Unfortunately, she is able to capture one of the four pieces.

2.XI -=[Thulsa]=-

- "The original tuwangis were bred by Thulsa as weapons against his foes in the divine wars. Although scholars have claimed that such a powerful god would not have created a race of small children to fight his battles, I argue in Divinus Bellum, Volume 2: Sibling Rivalry, that the tuwangis’ appearance was designed to unsettle his enemies. Imagine facing an army of innocents."

- Gidd’s dalliances with the goddess Zuras resulted in many divine children, including the prophetic goddess Mystel and the sinister god Thulsa.

- Thulsa coveted the power of the gulas and vampirs. Thulsa led a strike force that fought through armies of gulas and vampirs to slay Gluda in one of the largest battles of the Divine War.

- The origins of the kobolds date back to the Divine Wars, when Thulsa and Lakan performed genetic experiments of a dubious nature on captive faeries, hoping to create a race of expendable warriors.

2.XII -=[Tae-Go]=-

- A God who held the artifact able to allow the "magic kill cycle" skill to be used.

2.XIII -=[Akasha]=-

- Gidd led the gods of Arun into battle during the Divine War, but the goddess Akasha lured him away from the battle, then killed him.

- Akasha's mother is Gluda.

2.XIV -=[Lakan]=-

- The origins of the kobolds date back to the Divine Wars, when Thulsa and Lakan performed genetic experiments of a dubious nature on captive faeries, hoping to create a race of expendable warriors.

3.A Races (Primary, Playable)

3.I -=[Amani]=-

- "Created by the god Amarun". Home city is Kaiator. Freed from slavery by the giants by the gods Kaia and Lok as well as with help from the Castanics.

- When the humans' patron god cursed them, the amani and deva empires scrabbled over human lands in a war that weakened both. Unfortunately for the amani, the powerful giants decided aman soldiers would be useful. They enslaved the entire race, binding them with an unbreakable Seal of Obedience to ensure their loyalty.

- Historical timeline provided by Eruadan.
_____________________________________________________________________________
Circa -10,000 VC Amarun created the Amani on the continent Arun.
Circa -9,900 VC Amani and Deva empires scrabbled over Human lands in a war that weakened both.
Circa -9,500 VC to Circa -5,400 VC The Amani are enslaved by the Giants.
Circa -6,000 VC The gods destroy The Holy Empire of the Giants in a single day.
Circa -6,000 VC The Amani and remnant of the Giants become locked in a death struggle with the newly created Ocrans.
Circa -5,500 VC The Amani and remnant of the Giants migrate from Arun to glacial wastes of Northern Shara.
Circa -5,400 VC At the request of Kaia, Lok and his Deva artisans liberate the Amani from the remaining Giants.
Circa -5,000 VC The Amani drove out the Giants, tore down all they'd built, and raised a new city to honor their savior: Kaiator.
Circa -500 VC The Argons begin assaults on Kaiator, these assaults directly encouraged the formation of the Valkyon Federation.
0 VC The Amani join the Valkyon Federation.
176 VC The Amani come to the aid of the Valkyon Federation in the Battle for Essenia.
176 VC to 276 VC (present) The Amani living in Northern Shara face continued assaults from the Argons.
_____________________________________________________________________________

- There are four possible theories for how the Amani were liberated: Amani Sovereignty Theory, Lok and the Castanic Artisans Theory, Kaia's Grace Theory, and the Giant Hubris Theory.

--Liberation of the Amani People--

--The Holy Empire of Giants collapsed suddenly as it was hit with two crises: the wrath of the gods and the wrath of the suddenly freed amani people. Those two crises happened at more or less the same time—and at the time, the giants’ empire stretched across both continents. Therefore, there are many ways to approach the same event from different perspectives.

--Amani Sovereignty Theory
Some believe that the Amani People themselves were the driving force behind the Amani Liberation. Specifically, Davan, a hero by most accounts, appealed to the gods to come to the aid of the Amani People. Believers of the sovereignty theory agree that it was his entreaties to the gods that started everything in motion.

--Lok and the Castanic Artisans Theory
Others believe that the primary influence behind the Amani Liberation was Lok and the Castanic Clan, exiled from the Deva society. Lok was the chief designer of the Key of Freedom that resolved the puzzle of the seemingly unbreakable Seal of Obedience. Artisans in the Castanic Clan were essential in the construction and forging of the key. Once completed, the Amani gained a greater sense of freedom and mental liberation.

--Kaia's Grace Theory
Some scholars believe that it was Kaia's Grace that freed the Amani from oppression. It was Kaia who answered Davan's call and issued Lok to break the Seal of Obedience. After Lok and the Castanic artisans forged the Key of Freedom, it was Kaia who put it to use and freed the Amani from their tyrannical captors. Ergo, some believe that the grace exhibited by Kaia was the catalytic act that sparked the Amani Liberation.

--Giant Hubris Theory
Lastly, some believe that the giant's brought the Amani Liberation upon themselves. As the Holy Empire of the Giants grew and expanded, so did their hubris and arrogance, ultimately leading to disaster when the gods destroyed the majority of their civilization. This inevitable result left the giants in a weakened state, less able to combat an Amani slave resistance.

3.II -=[Baraka]=-

- The race of Giants was created by Tithus. Saved from annihilation by the gods on the Day of Flame. The Baraka have no homeland.

- Baraka usually have twins, long for a homeland, can craft magical weapons quickly.

- "Live no longer than Elves."

- "One can tell the age of a Baraka by counting the rings around their body." -CPE loading screen.

3.III -=[Castanic]=-

- Well-known as highly skilled artisans and crafters. Originally a deva clan, the Castanics went their own way. Betrayed/tricked into creating an artifact that killed a god (Baldur?). Their capitol is Castanica.

- "Runes" on their flesh are actually arcane scars seered into their flesh upon Balder's death. Baby Castanics are born without horns or scars. Puberty is the onset of the growth of their horns and scars, and reportedly a painful experience.

- Castanics in general do not follow a deity.

- Few members of the populous follow Kaia as their chosen deity.

3.IV -=[High Elf]=-

- After 3,000 years of elven war, only the High Elves remain. One hundred years ago, the Elves invaded the Human territories, but were forced to end their assault because Amani, Popori, and Baraka stood with the Humans. Their capitol is Allemantheia, home to the Core (the central artifact of Elven power).

- The elves made the Flower of Life to celebrate the marriage of their creator god, Karas. The fact that mortals were able to distill such power in something as innocuous as a flower filled Karas with paternal pride (think of a precocious child’s art project). Karas invested some divine power in the flower and taught the elves further secrets of arcane magic. The elves had proved themselves quite capable, and Karas thought they were ready for further lessons.

- Can live to be ~100 years old. (IIRC, they age very gracefully.)

- Historical timeline provided by Eruadan.
_____________________________________________________________________________
Circa -10,000 VC Karas created the Elves
Circa -4,000 VC Sikander and his nephew Nerezza battled with tremendous energy damaging the Elves' greatest treasure, the Flower of Life.
Circa -3,000 VC The Elves separate into different factions, the High Elves migrate from Arun to Shara.
Circa -3,000 VC Allemantheia is founded.
Circa -2,824 VC High Elves begin a 3,000 year period of militarism.
176 VC Battle for Essenia, High Elves suffer a devastating defeat against the Valkyon Federation. This marked the end of the militarism period for the High Elves.
176 VC Civil war begins.
Circa 235 VC Civil war ends, High Elves emerge as a more tolerant nation.
Circa 250 VC The High Elves join the Valkyon Federation.
_____________________________________________________________________________

3.V -=[Human]=-

- Created by Gidd, then cursed to wander without a homeland when Gidd had found that several Human's, in their greed, had stolen several of his artifacts. Unsatisfied with his punishment upon those Human's, he cursed the entire race.

- Velik took pity on the Humans and created Velika for them.

3.VI -=[Popori/Elin]=-

- The nation of Poporia is comprised of two distinct races: Elin and Popori. The goddess Elinu used her divine essence to created the Elin, who in turn created the Popori when the task of keeping the world safe proved too much for the Elin alone. Pora Elinu is the capitol of the Popori/Elin.

- The latest Mysterium research suggests that the goddess Seren has taken on the task of making spirit into flesh.

- Poporis and Elins both share similar lifespans in the realm of seven to eight decades.

- You can never be sure how old a popori is and only a great fool asks an elin. When an elin dies, her spirit returns to the dream of nature.

- Q: When a new popori is created, are they immediately fully sentient or does it take a little time to get used to their new "condition", as it were? A: It takes about an hour for the urge to lick oneself to fully flee the mind.

-*NEW* "Elinu had already created the elins, but she saw her daughters needed allies to protect nature. To that end, she woke certain forest creatures, imbuing them with sentience and reshaping their bodies-flesh made spirit.

Some she chose for their courage, others their wits, and still others because it pleased her. The poporis became the brave, sly creatures we see today." -Isobel of Woodstrider Point. Special thanks to Sarythe for this.

Author's note: The lore here is semi-contradictory regarding the Popori. Please be mindful of how others interpret the lore. I suggest giving the Popori players the right-of-way!

4.A -=[Misc info]=-

4.I Lifespans in a nutshell...

Humans: 70-80 years.
Castanics: Unmentioned.
Amani: Unmentioned.
Popori: 70-80 years.
Elin : 70-80 years.
High Elves: 100 years.
Baraka: "No longer than Elves"

The year as of TERA's start is 276 VC.

4.II Misc.

Elves joined the Federation shortly after the second emergence in 250 VC, turning heads of around world when they opened their doors to refugees and marching out an army to face the Argon.

The city of Velika's lore indicates that Elves weren't secluded to themselves. Centuries ago, Velika's first Exarch was of mixed High Elven and Human decent.

4.III -=[The Island of Dawn]=-

- Reportedly a recent addition to the world, only a few months old at the start of TERA (release.)
- Initial exploration party was sent to Island and was entirely wiped out. Cause unknown.
- Player characters are a part of the second wave. *Speculation* Being that we're raw recruits, it's possible the Federation is taking just about anybody willing to wield a weapon, if only for a show of force.

5.A Major Cities

5.I -=[Kaiator]=-

- Only breached by the Argon once, during one of Kaia's training seminars. Only Kaia and 5 students survived.

- The studs used in building the city have the names of the fallen inscribed upon them.

- A Baraka couple working the local mill responded to the breach, and lost their lives protecting Kaiator. They are the only Baraka to be honored in this tradition.

5.II -=[Velika]=-

- Velika suffered a civil war: Decendents of the original settlers vs. merchants and alien races.

- Disputes became so intense, Velik, in her fury, marched the streets one night killing anyone whom dared break her proclamation on the "Night of Black Arrows."

- Merchants - and their resources - sided with the alien races (Baraka, Aman, etc.) against the descendents and politicians. The government officials of Velika were thrown out of office, ushering in a new, free age.

- The first man elected to lead Velika was of High Elven and Human mixed decent.
